August, noun: the eight month of the year, the end of summer
August, adjective: dignified, stately
My least favorite month (an odd thought, but there it is), draws to a close.
August, grand serene.
A time of waiting for the harvest, a time of waiting for school to begin again.
A time to mourn the shortening days.
This August, the August of 2021: rain, fog, then dry, sere fields.
August maturity: the loss of spring’s eternal hope, summer’s carefree ease.
August maturity: the burden of responsibility, the burden of care.
And yet: August, the return of dew, the sweetness of the morning air. An August moonrise, the starry skies. A reminder of what is real, of what will last.
